GHG Registry was founded by a team of scientist who believe in using modern research to increase global adoption and accuracy of carbon credits in Agriculture and Forestry.
Our team collaborates with stakeholders around the globe to enact protocols that empower sustainable project participants and foster a community of equity and excellence that encourage positive climate actions.
Founders
Dr. Asim Biswas
University of Guelph
Asim was born and brought up in a small subsistence farm family from a remote village (Poragachha, Asannagar, Nadia) in West Bengal, India. Working and participating in farm activities and the ‘magic in soil that turns a small seed into a big plant or a huge tree’ always fascinated him about soil. Same way ‘why a field soil can grow plants better and another is not’ made him curious. Now, he is a leading scientist in data driven sustainable soil management and works to increase the productivity and resilience of land-based agri-food production systems in an environmentally sustainable manner.
Dr. Naresh Thevathasan
University of Guelph
Naresh grew up in the South Asian country of Sri Lanka. He comes from an agricultural background and developed an interest in tree-based inter-cropping systems after the Sri Lankan government began moving toward diversification of agricultural systems. This is how Naresh developed his interest in agronomy and agroforestry. Naresh’s research mainly focuses on carbon sequestration and nutrient cycling dynamics in temperate agroforestry systems and purpose-grown biomass crops research and development.
Dr. Sabine Grunwald
University of Florida
Sabine Grunwald, Ph.D., leads the UF Mindfulness Program and is Professor in the Soil and Water Sciences Department, IFAS, UF. She blends expertise and interests in mindfulness, spirituality, environmental and geo-sciences. Inter- and transdisciplinary thinking that integrate human, socio-cultural, ecological and biophysical domains to address wicked global human-environmental problems of our time are of special interest to her. Dr. Grunwald earned a Ph.D. in environmental sciences from the University in Giessen, Germany, a 1-yr. Graduate Certificate in Integral Studies from Fielding Graduate University, Santa Barbara, CA, and an Authentic Leadership Certificate with Mindfulness training (Naropa University, Boulder, CO). She studies integral and transpersonal psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco, CA. Dr. Grunwald is affiliate faculty member in the UF Center for Spirituality and Health. Since the 1980s, she has practiced qigong, tai chi and various meditation styles including somatic meditation.
Dr. José A. M. Demattê
University of São Paulo
Dr. José A. M. Demattê is currently a Professor in the Department of Soil Science, Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture, University of São Paulo, Brazil. Graduate at Agronomia from Universidade Federal de Lavras (1990), master’s at Agronomia Soils and Plant Nutrition from Universidade de São Paulo (1992) and doctor. at the São paulo University, ESALQ (1995). Professor in Soil Tecnology and Remote Sensing applied to Soils. Has experience in Agronomy, acting on the following subjects: remote sensing, soil survey and mapping, geoprocessing and precision agriculture. He has basic formation in Pedology with carrier in Remote Sensing Applied to Soils in last 30 years. He has extensive experience from research to practice in field, agriculture industries, soil management, mapping, precision agriculture, soil tillage, productivity systems and with soil laboratories, as to make the bridge between the real issues and academy. Currently he leads the Brazilian Soil Spectral Library, the Brazilian Program on Soil Analysis via Spectroscopy, and he is also member of a working group of the Pronasolos Brazilian Soil Mapping and MapBioma Programs.
